Okay, for the sake of keeping everyone well informed and their voices heard... I am opening this thread as the only place to discuss what went down this week with the bans.
Banning the Pollos was something that Harvey did not want to do. But the fact remains that they displayed a habit of disrespect for new members and old members alike. I want to clarify that it wasn't because of the pictures or joking around or just having fun or the (alleged) complaints about losses, etc. (they were never on the boards, so it isn't a huge deal. You have a problem with a result, feel free to talk to one of us.). It was more the posting in other people's RPs, the flaming of new people, the constant badgering of someone else who did something wrong way after the person was punished. I understand that the Pollos themselves do not see what they were doing as "wrong" or flaming but the fact remains that a majority of us did. And the whole roster has been warned plenty of times to knock off that kind of behavior and it continued to persist. Harv had no choice but to ban the source of that problem.
Justin Partial was someone I personally did not want to ban. He wanted to leave and that was fine. But to do so by flaming the fed was not appropriate and I feel people would see his post and not want to join due to it and having someone on the boards who so freely can post that stuff. So I deleted his post because it wasn't anything constructive that could help us imrpove the fed. He then re-posted it. I had to delete it again. He then re-posted it a third time and me and Twilight decided that he probably would not stop.... so we had to ban him.
Bottom line is this: their behavior may have made this fun place for them but it made a hostile enviroment for everyone else. It put the fed in a negative light and possibly scared away some people from joining or caused flakes. That cannot be proven of course, but their behavior was very abrassive and cast us in a bad light and was just all in all disrespectful to others. This makes me again point out the number one rule here.
Respect others
That is it. Remember that not everyone has the same sense of humor. Not everyone can take a joke or even percieve an attack as a joke. If someone joins, let them get situated before poking fun at them. Also remember that everyone has their tastes, writing style, way of talking, etc. that might be different than yours. Just because you don't like it, doesn't make them WRONG. It just means that you don't see things the same way. If you want to give them feedback, that is cool but make sure to do it in a non-threatening way. Again, just be respectful.
Remember we are still a growing fed and we don't want to be that place with the "bad OOC atmosphere." We want to be welcoming while still having fun. Does that mean we can't have disagreements? No, debates are what makes an OOC atmosphere great, but just keep the respect thing in mind. Also remember to respect the fed at the same time as well. If you have a grievance that is fine. If you want to let us know how to improve that is fine. But be constructive. Don't just say "This fed sucks" and expect that that will be constructive and get your point across. What needs to improve? What don't you like? That kind of thing. Don't just flame for flaming's sake.
Finally, I am keeping this thread open for a week so we can discuss ANY issues you guys have with the bans, the fed, or the way things or done. I personally just want to move on and try to get things going but I understand that that may not be easy for everyone. If you have suggestions on how to improve the fed, how to improve how we handle bans... go ahead and speak out. Let us know.
